Prelude
Hedgerow Diaries’ Book Too
Prelude
Book one is all about the lives of six fairies, their lives and adventures. Loves and losses and how they defeat enemies and gain friends.
The book begins after the introduction to the main characters with the fairies meeting the chickens. After discovering that three of the six chickens have wonderful singing voices the next mission is to find a way to get the chickens to the venue of the local singing competition. The competition that the Lark wins every year. They decide to dig a tunnel and one of the chickens is lost. The fairies try to help and this leads to several scary moments. Resulting in meeting with goblins and eventually hobgoblins and their own worlds are a little torrid. Two of the goblins have been evicted and come above ground. Eventually the chicken is rescued and the competition goes ahead but not quite as planned. During all of this the sparrow fairy called jack and another fairy called Blossom fall in love and decide to get married. The wedding isn’t quite what they planned.

The rest of the book finds the fairies lives intertwined with the goblins and hobgoblins as they tread the path of life always mindful of the fact that they only have six pockets of magic fairy dust each to use before they must give themselves to the flowers so that a new fairy can be born into the world.

Foster had been helping Daphne with all her visitors and kept reminding her that he still wanted to get married. Tony was still with them in the low down hollow and was very happy. The chickens were still singing. But, nobody had mentioned this year’s competition.
Suddenly the couple from the house came all the way down the garden with spades and a huge plastic thing and buckets of what looked like weeds. They were talking about digging a pond with fish and frogs and wildlife. Daphne’s ears pricked up, she was very excited at the prospect of having so much extra wildlife around her.
The couple seemed to be digging for quite some time, the lady said “I’ll go and make a brew.” Petal didn’t know what she meant by that unless she was making some kind of potion, she flew over to Tony to see what he thought. “Silly girl, she is simply making a cup of tea but they call it ‘a brew’.”
Petal felt a little embarrassed and all the fairies kept on watching them build this pond. This process
